What is your Cancellation Policy?

If you are unable to travel, then we ask that you inform us asap in order to successfully re-let your stay and if successfully re-let you will be offered a refund of any monies paid minus an 8% admin fee.

However, if we are unable to re-let your booking, you are still liable for the full cost of the booking under our terms and conditions.  For this reason, we encourage guests to take out travel insurance.

How near to York are the barns?

In a rural setting, the barns are approx 10 miles South of York and there are three methods of getting into York, taking between 20-30 minutes depending on mode of transport.

You can drive, take the bus, or drive to the Designer Outlet and get the park and ride bus from there. The quickest method is by car or public bus direct from the barns.

We provide you with a bus timetable in your welcome basket and guide you to where the bus stop is when we are welcoming you to the barns and settling you in.

Where are the locations of each Barn entrance via what3words?

Using the ‘what3words’ app or what3words.com in a browser, you can locate the 3 metre square area where each barns entrance is located.

Simply type in the 3 random word reference into the search bar, each word separated by a dot.

Is there a bus service available to/from York or Selby?

Arriva number 42 runs between Selby train station and York Piccadilly in the city centre via the barns. The barns are equidistant between both and it takes under a half hour to travel from the barns into York city centre.  There is a late service returning from York to the barns at 9pm and 11pm on a Saturday only.

Where is the nearest pub?

There is a pub in the village of Kelfield as well as a few options a short walk along the riverbank walk to Cawood, the neighbouring village.

We are a licenced premises and can sell you Prosecco and wines to have in your barns during your stay.  You are given a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, wine or orange juice in your welcome basket on booking.

Where are the nearest train stations?

There is a train station at both Selby and York. Both run services to London Kings Cross. Selby station has the added bonus of a bus service that runs to the barns directly from the station.

York station has two options, to take the Designer Outlet service from across from the entrance to the station and then catch the Arriva 42 service from the road beside the outlet car park to complete your bus journey to the barns.

Selby train station is approx 20 mins journey and depending on the volume of traffic, York train station is approx 25-35 mins journey by car.

Where are good places to eat nearby?

Both on booking and arrival, we provide you with information as to the best local places to eat.  We are delighted to have award winning restaurants close by for example

  • Burro Italian Restaurant in Riccall is a 2 minute drive
  • The Drovers Arms in Skipwith is a 15 minute drive
  • The York Marina in Naburn is a 8 minute drive

We also recommend to you local cafes like those in neighbouring Cawood which can can combine with a walk along the riverbank (25 minute walk) across the road from the barns.

Best walks from The Dovecote Barns

There are plenty of walks you can do near Kelfield, here are some of our recommended ones –

  • The riverbank walk from the barns to Cawood village where there are pubs and cafes
  • The circular walk on the Sustrans Solar System route from Naburn to York
  • The many routes in Skipwith Common having had lunch at The Drovers Arms, Skipwith
  • A walk through our crop fields towards Kelfield wood to see wild deer and lots of hares
