Eat & Drink

Stay in with your own licenced bar and private chef or venture out either locally or further afield for an abundance of cuisine choice.

Although you have your own licenced bar on-site and an option for private chef, you can venture out to local villages, York or Selby for an abundance of restaurants and bars.

Overview

York boasts it’s very own Michelin star restaurant and there are many other fabulous restaurants to choose from.  But you don’t have to venture far, local villages have some great pubs and restaurants and there is a bus that runs from the barns to both York and Selby to enjoy a night out.

Private Dining or Pop-up Village Restaurant

For groups of 10 or more, you have the option to hire a private chef to the barns.  Alternatively, there is a ‘pop-up’ in the village called ‘The Shed’ which is subject to availability.  Contact us.

Pubs with food

Both the Castle Inn at Cawood and it’s sister pub The Drovers Arms at Skipwith are great pubs for some good beer and Sunday dinners or evening meals.

Recommended Specialty Local Restaurants

Burro Italian restaurant in Riccall which is a 3 minute drive is fantastic.  Highly recommended.

As is the Rythre Arms Steak House at Ryther which is a 5 minute drive.  If you like steak, this place is a must.

Pubs & Bars

You have your own on-site licenced bar in ‘The Long Hall’ but there are some great pubs within walking distance for you to enjoy.

The Ferry Inn is a 16th century pub at the riverside in Cawood.  It is at the end of a 25 min walk down the riverbank from the barns.

The Castle Inn at Cawood and Drovers Arms at Skipwith have great food.

Delicatessen and Groceries

The Pickled Postie at both Cawood and Riccall has freshly prepared food and basic groceries and craft beer and wine for sale.

We accept home delivery supermarket shopping prior to your arrival and there is also a welcome basket of groceries and wine/Prosecco on arrival.

At Riccall there is a Co-op supermarket and there are supermarkets at Selby and York.

Fancy staying in?

You don’t need to venture out to have a wonderful meal! We have some great options for dining in and can arrange professionally cooked food to be delivered straight to your table.

“This was our second stay as a family. None of us wanted to go home on the Monday! We will return for many more family weekends in the years to come. Thank you Brigita.”

“Hay Barn was a perfect place to stay. We had a lovely time with the grand children. Everything catered for, quite location but close to York. Local pubs were very welcoming and everyone very friendly. A great welcome basket from the owners was the perfect start to our week stay. Could not fault anything. Already planning our next stay!”

“Just returned from a short break at The Haybarn. As soon as I walked through the front door I knew it was going to be special. It was 5☆ luxury for us and hopefully will return sooner than later!”

“This is the third time we have stayed at dovecote barns and yet again thoroughly enjoyed it. The hay barn was renovated to a very high standard and Brigitta was extremely welcoming and informative regarding the surrounding area. The welcome basket was a nice touch and the home made bread delicious. Would definitely come back.”

“As a family we have stayed in a few self catering holiday homes – this has to be one of the best in terms of furnishings, comfort, attention to detail and local information. We arrived on the 2nd January to the 5th and the Christmas decorations were still up – my girls felt very special. We will definitely be returning”
